Club Records | Club Records: I missed one record in the previous issue.
Ramona Thevenet Smith 0/50 lowered her own 5k club record of 22.22 on the 1st May at Bushy Park by knocking off a massive 32 seconds by running 21.50. BUT! On the 26th June Ramona knocked another 5 seconds off 21.50 and ran 21.45 this being the now the 5k ladies 0/50 club record.
Two U/13 boys broke the existing 75H club record at Woking during the Wessex Lge. match on June 6th.
The record was 13.93 held by Rory Kelly since May. Andrew Lomax ran 13.80 but Rory went even better to run 13.60 now the new club record. This could also be a record of having two lowering the record on the same day in the same race. Well done lads.
Tim Page has pointed out a couple of other records that have been broken. But unfortunately I received the results too late for this issue. These will be printed in the August issue. Sorry about that Tim.
Also many thanks for the info.

| Chairman's Report July 2010 | I'm pleased to announce that registration for this year's Young Athletes Championships on 5th September is now open! Details are on our web site. Naturally we are putting in our annual plea for helpers who are always much appreciated. Please sign up on the forms you'll see dotted around or let me know if you can help on the day if you are not already one of the team.
The Cockcrow is one of the best ways of letting you all know the latest news and after 80 editions Tom and Graham have found a better way of managing it all which will take the burden off them. As from August Alison Jackson has kindly offered to take on the editing of it using reports sent to her by team managers and members. Also thanks to Rose Nicholson who will use the content to update the web site. In due course we would like to move to a web-based magazine. I would like to thank Tom and Graham on behalf of the whole Club, for their dedicated work in producing Cockcrow over the years, but we will still look forward to reading Tom's own items that he sends in!
Great to read that former Woking and International athlete Zara Hyde-Peters, has been awarded an OBE for her services to athletics. From her days at Woking AC Zara has risen to the dizzy heights of being the Chief Executive of British Triathlon, but she still keeps in touch with her roots.
Enjoy the rest of your summer’s athletics and the holidays too.
Neil.

| More top class performances win Sweatshop Kit Scholarships | This year's Young Athletes Open Championship has produced another set of great performances. The winners of Sweatshop's Kit Scholarships threw, jumped and ran some great performances. Myles Richardson (Basingstoke and Mid Hants) - U13 B ran his 100m in 12.2 and capped that in the 200m with a 24.97 both of which rank him as no3 in the UK this year.
On the field Nicholas Percy (Isle of Wight AC) U15B threw his discus 46.20m, only 72cm behind his own UK no 1 performance earlier this year and even this lower performance by his standards still ranked as the second best in the UK this year.
This year's YA poster and programme subject, Jack Phipps (Woking AC) cleared his U17m pole vault by 3.90m to win the best performance by a Woking athlete.
Well done to all 3 athletes - keep up the good work and the hard work. We all look forward to seeing you in the Olympics if not in 2012 then in 2016?
We also had more great performances behind the scenes with a record number of volunteer helpers and officials - 130 in total! A big thank you to you all without whom this event would not happen. |
